Hi All,

Ok so this morning i had my first attempt at feeding baby platies.

i put a single wafer in and after say 1 hour 1 of the 8 babies mouthed the flake but didnt seem to take anything off it.

So i thought i would try a flake. I put a flake in the water 9 not one fish come to the surface. then a short while later the flake sunk to the bottom of the tank.

As the flake was sinking ( 1/2 way down) a couple of baby platies quickly zoomed to the flake and nibbled a tiny bit off.

The flake hit the sand and since then no fish has even touched it.

so i had an idea to try and hold the flake between my fingers half way down in the tank.

a few seconds later 2 babies started nibbling at the food.

My conclusion...... do i have to hand feed baby platies which are say about 1 month old??

Could i just put a few pellets in as ive seen someone put pellets in on youtube and there were about 20 babies around it???/

The video is not of my fish but someone elses babies and he is using a pellet of some sort.

Thanks all.

You are worrying too much; if they are hungry, platies will eat from the substrate.

could you please give me a rough feeding guide for flakes.

so if i put 1 flake in per day will that be enough for 8 baby platies about 2 weeks old

Two or three flakes, crushed up as small as you can, once or twice a day should be fine. Or, get hold of some Tetramin baby and given them a small pinch.
