yesterday in my new tank i forgot to put the plant substrate before i put the water in so i put it in as carefully as i could but it kicked up a load of dust.

i let it settle overnight but its still cloudy. also there is alot of bits floating on the surface, i have tried to get them to sink but they float again

should i turn on the filter, or will that disturb it more. and should i skim off the bits on the surface

thanks

i would drain the murky water then put the sand in and refill.

do not put the filter on, and the floating bits are normally kept below the substrate as they are held by the sand, just pic the floating bits out, and drain it

ok i drained the water, added the sand filled it back up and its merky again.

i skimmed off all the floating parts. problem is all the stuff makes the sand look really dirty so i am going to get rid of it by tirring up the sand occasionally and letting the small parts go through the filter and big ones take out by hand.

anything i can do to get rid of the merky water. i dont want to drain it again. the filter is going, shall i add another filter?

take all media out of the filter and wash it, then fill all compartments with floss
