hi all

im not new to tropical but am new to plant keeping

always had plnats but never did well, recently i changed to very fine gravel which is more like sand and changed my lighting to 2x 39w arcadia tubes 1x day and 1x plant tube.

to my pleasant suprize the plants i have put in have grown,i did a trim up the other day and now theres lots of new growth which is a lot thicker than the older growth on the bottom which im putting down to my lighting being better than the shops?

only now with the new top growth the plants are very top heavy and falling over.is it worth me cutting the plants right back to almost stumps and letting them re grow?

many thanks

What plant(s) need trimming?

Some plants can tolerate there stems being cut and you could even take the cuttings and let them float or plant them and they will form new roots and grow for example hygrophila. Other plants require a little more tender care and the longer shoots or leaves need to be plucked from the rhizome and cannot be replanted.

my plants are ludwigia palustris, hygrophila polysperma, hygrophila rosae australis.

i did a tank spring clean the other day, toke the plants out and did alot of cutting back as they looked a mess.they are replanted now and look alot better but think its a case of wait a see if they survive.
