I went to a different fish shop in the next town and was looking to replace my recently departed platy.
In the platy tank were about 8 platies. All had cramped fins, 3 were on the surface, 2 near enough on their sides and 2 were dead. The one I chose was the only one swimming normally ( as well as he could anyway).
I asked the young lady at the counter if I could have the fish.
Armed with two nets she caught the platy and almost crushed the poor thing between the two nets and finally put it in 2 inches of water. I insisted she added more water, took the fish home and rested the bag for 35 mins. Since I put the fish in the tank he has not come out of the cave.
This taught me a lessen to never buy fish there again. The only reason I took this fish home was to give it a better chance compared to the rest of its tank mates.
I just thought I'd share this with you, sorry if you find it boring.
