Trickle Filters. What My Bro In-law Gave Me.

He gave me two of them. Is it a dumb idea to consider using them for my 120 gallon tank? I have 2 1" calfo overflows on the tank.

They are 24"Lx 9.5"Wx15"H.


In the first picture the chamber on the bottom is open. Then there is a little overflow thing (5") from the bottom chamber to the top chamber. The top chamber has a few "shelf like supports on the sides".

What do you think of this? Would I be able to use one for each overflow? If they'd be noisy then i'll pass becasuse the tank will be in our living room.

trickle filters are very effective, but are also very noisy. will sound like someone's peeing constantly in your livingroom

Any idea how much they may sell for? Never been used either. They sat at my bro in-laws for a couple years and he said I've got these filters and I'm not sure what they are exactly but you can have them. He told me he just wanted to get them out of his house and if I could use them fine, if not sell them. He wouldn't take any $ for them...or any $ for some of the other stuff he gave me. He's getting an extra Christmas present or two since he won't accept payment any other way

Dunno what you can get on the individual market, but they typically retail for around $300

hmm....If I end up selling them, I'll just give a chunk of the $ to his wife and tell her not to tell him where it came from She has no idea about this stuff what-so-ever so if I explain that I'm trying to be fair and he won't let me, she'll probably do it. And she's not the type to just run out and spend it on herself either

Yeah, trouble will be that demand for them is pretty slim

Would it be going in a cabinet? If so you could always line the cabinet with cork and/or polystyrine to cut down the noise.

Well, I just posted on the local club website as 2 trickle filters for sale and he's asking what price I want....what should I ask for? I want to get rid of them as they are sitting in 2 big boxes in my living room, but I don't want to get raped w/a cheap price....any ideas anyone?

I know ski said about $300 in retail for a semi comparable price, but what about private sale? They are brand new/unused acrilyic.

Well, my stupidity. I never opened the second box that he gave me. He said it was 2 trickle filters...well it's one trickle filter and ALL the gear that goes w/them. Tubing, bioballs all that stuff. Basically a whole setup, even a return pump. Could probably get more for this set up now
