i have tried a couple times to grow val, needless to say unsecessful. where could i be going wrong? i love the plant and think it looks great in a tank. would work wonderfully in mine but i need some detailed care instructions to make sure im doing things right! please help

People tend to find valls do better in hard water as they extract KH to make CO2 :)

That's makes sense. Mine are growing like wild and our water goes through the chalk downs before being filtered and sent to our taps.

*EDIT* PH of tap water 7.. odd as I would've thought it would've been more towards 8 :S

Vallis either grows in the tank or it doesn't. I have had two tanks set up next to each other. They were identical or so I thought. One grew vallis and other couldn't. Generally tho it seems better in hard alkaline water and if you can get some from a tank near to where you live it will do better than the stuff from a supplier.
Good light helps as does iron fertiliser.

ahh, now see i lived in an area where the water wasnt very hard, in fact im pretty sure the water was softened. but i havent tried it since i moved. when i redo my tank in a copuple months i may just give i t a try again.

I agree with Sam. I have hard water and my vallis wouldn't stop growing, it was a right weed
