do any of you give you betta's unusal foods as a treats? mine on occasion gets grilled chicken as a treat and he goes nutty for it. literlly he is like a savage shark when i give it to him.

i know he hasn't been feeling well and i am not sure if it he will be with me much longer but i am going to make him a happy betta for however long i have him

Not sure if grilled chicken is a suitable treat for a betta, bloodworm would be better :good:

he gets them very often. he gets chicken once a month. he is like a shark when he gets it. i have seen him proudly swim around the tank with a peice in his mouth before he finally swallows it.

I was told on this forum that you shouldn't give blood worms more than twice a week..I think because they are very high in protein and can constipate the fish?? <---not sure on that part tho.. :good:

"" A savage shark""

maybe a very teeny weeny little sharky wannabe :p

Mine get beefheart occasionly now that i use it for fry...they love it but its very messy

I sthat the frozen one shel?, my lfs is doing it in frozen foods now.

no its fresh oxen heart from my local butcher, it comes bigger than my fists put together. i chop the stringy bits out, mix and eitehr blen it with fresh shrimp to make it stick together of i put it with gelatine (sp) and freeze it in ice cube trays. When i want some i cut little bits off, let it defrost then plop it in the tank. The tiny seringes are good for this too, was thinkin of moving onto them but only half filling as i wouldn't want to re freeze it....Very messy tho

Im not sure grilled chicken is what you should be giving him, try some live foods such as bloodworm, daphnia ect.
I used to feed mine small spiders too, something different, and im sure they eat spiders in the wild :good:

Really? I have never heard that before... I feed mine bloodworms at least every other day and I haven't had any problems like that.

Its generally not recomended to feed them too often wth blood worm but i think its that they should have a wide variety of food and not just bloodworm all the time as it means they will lack other minerals etc that they need to be healthy and pellets contain mostof what they need...if that makes sense
