Hi,

I hope I've picked up quite early an outbreak of ich in my 84L tank. I noticed one or two of white spots on a couple of my guppies.
I immediately added some Protozin and have just started looking into the best way to clear it up. I've read the pinned post on the treatment of whitespot and have a couple of extra questions that I hope someone will be able to answer. My tank contains 7 kuhli loaches, some of which have small white spots on them. Unlike the guppies the spots are not raised so I'm not sure whether they are infected or not but that is largely irrelevant as I am going to treat the whole tank anyway. I've read about the difficulties of treating ich when loaches are present so I have a couple of questions:

1. What is the highest temperature I can gradually raise the tank to that will have no adverse affect on the loaches?

2. Can you add half the dose but at twice the the rate (ie two half doses 12 hours apart on each of the treatments days)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS My PH is quite high due to my tap water quality, somewhere around 7.5 I know this may have some bearing on the dosage as well.

Do the spots look like grains of salt or buigger.
Increase aeration as its very important as high temps and med reduce 02 in the water.
For whitespot 30c

The spots on the guppies look like grains of salt yes. I've got aeration up as high as possible.

Is 30c okay for the loaches?

As long as there alot of aeration in the tank, as it will be tough on the bottom for them.
