One of my golden barbs has started to flick against the gravel, have searched on here and think it maybe gill fluke? The fish is breathing quite heavily, and his gill looks a little inflamed, wanting to catch this before it may spread to other fish. My lfs open till 8 so any quick replies would be most grateful, I can then go and get the best treatment for the tank.

My readings are ph 7.4, amonia 0, nitrite 0.1 nitrate 10, reading taken today.....can I get something from LFS to treat? I have a frog in the tank also as had to move him as treating one of my other tanks for ick, so would I have to move him again, I do have another tank that I could put him in tho?

You have a nitrite reading sure it not that causing the breathing and inflamed gill.
I would do a water change.
There this med get you the info now.

There this med get you the info now? Sorry don't understand what this means? Thanks for replying so quick wilder..x OOps sorry wilder the link did not show up straight away!

I wouldn't use the med till you are sure its flukes.
It could be your water quality, as a slight reading can make fishy flick, heavy breath, and inflame the gills.

Ok wilder, thanks for the information, I shall do a water change now...!

Good luck.

Hi again wilder

Well my fish are still flicking, my stats are spot on now, have done a lot of water changes, and nitrite now showing at 0...would you recommend that maybe I used the treatment you suggested, just a lot more of my fish flicking against the gravel now, and I am a little worred about them....its my biggest tank....and its driving me nuts watching em flick all the time....

Yes I would then, the med is it wormer plus.

Wilder I am asking for your help again please?

I have treated my tank with the wormer stuff you recommended, the majority of the fish seem to have stopped flicking...hurray!

BUT the golden barb that had the red gill, it is still gaping, looks sore but it doesn't seem too bothered by it, but would obviously like to try and sort out what is wrong with it, it is flicking but only every now and then, its eating fine, it has some peas earlier which my golden barbs love, I have taken a pic which may help you to help me in getting my fish looking better, although as I said it is not looking as ill as it was last week? From the pic it does look very red.

Can you help me at all?

Debbie

May I ask why no-one ever seems to mention golden barbs...does no-one like them?...lol

Once parasites attack the gills not good.
have you retreated as with wormer plus you have to retreat for flukes.
Flukes can cause bacterial infections.
I would add a bacterial med with the wormer plus as you can use wormer plus with other meds.
