Hi,
I just got back from the lfs, sometimes i feel like they have idiots working there sometimes i dont...
What do you want from highschoolers, they are probably just looking for some cash...
I called another store and they put me with the mgr of the fishes there so i feel they knew a little more.
My platy has a red bump, actully there are multople bumps now, betwen its eye and mouth.
No trouble swimming, not being pestered by the tankmates, still eating and it has been a few days since the emergence of the bumps.
Yes i know bad me, but i was trying to figure out what the heck i was dealing with before trying to treat it, but my googling doesnt appear to be up to snuff whe it comes to fish ailments.
The one store said it was either something genetic which wont spread of viral/bacterial which could.
Said i should try melafix.
I asked about setting up a hospital tank and was told that if it was viral/bacteril then the rest of the fish were exposed as well so i should most likely treat the tank....
Okay i am fine with one treatmen, just dont want to make a habit of it....
So i go buy the stuff and when i get home i read it
Says to rmove the activated charcoal if possible before treating (so as not to immediately remove the meds i guess) and says to treat for 7 days.
What do i do with the filter?, do i just take it out and let it dry out, should i take som water out and leave the filter in it to keep it wet? Toss it and put a new one in after treatment.
Also indicaes to do a water change after the 7 days.
Platy in qustion is 9 months old
30 gal tank
Thanks a lot.
