I've started treating a mild breakout of Ick in my tank. This is what I have done over the past few days.

Added a submersible heater and have gradually raised it to 86-88 degrees (Fish have responded ok to it)

Added 6 teaspoons of CopperSafe, based on 1 teaspoon per 4 gallons.

So far, I have not noticed the Ick get any worse, so I assume this is a good sign?? But I don't think I am at the point where they fall off yet either. None of the fish are "covered" and only a few have several spots of the white.

Question.... With the Ick treatment, how often should I do small water changes (say 20-30%)?? My ammonia is 0 and Ph is 7.0, but Nitrites are still around 5 and Nitrates are about 10.

If I do a 20-30% water change, do I re-add a full dose of CopperSafe for Ick Treatment? It says it works for a month, but in the pamphlet it says "Be sure to add CopperSafe to replacement water, when water changes are made. This will maintain the therapeutic level of CopperSafe."

It does not say whether to add full 6 teaspoon dose or fraction depending on amount of water changed.

What fish are you treating for whitespot as some can't tolerate salt or high temps, if you do have to preform a water change all ways add the correct amount of med back to the water removed.
