Hi everyone

In your opinion, what is the best, fastest and most effective way of treating Ich??

Im looking for a method that wont effect the biological filtration and something that will not harm catfish!

Im not currently infected with Ich but i did have it in my previous aquarium and it took the lives of many fish.
I dont want a repeat of that in my new aquarium and just want to make sure i am fully prepared this time if i do get infected again.

Thank you for your time and advice

Paul

i had a Ich attack in my tank. i bought some Ich medicine & raised the temp of the tank so as to speed up the lifecycle of the Ich parasite.

Some of my tertas died, i lost 13 out of 20 of them. All my other fish where fine.

Nasty stuff aint it.
What meds worked for u? Did it ever return? And did it effect your biological filtration causing your tank to cycle over again?

I treated ich successfully with waterlife protozin,it didn`t harm my biofilter or my corys

I had an Ich outbreak in a tank with Corydoras. I actually noticed before I saw any Ich spots anywhere that two Corys lost their barbels with what I know now was from an infection from not having my gravel clean enough (it was plenty smooth). I also had a Betta seem to fall ill before I saw the Ich. Anyhow, Ich hit, and I treated with Kordon's Rid Ich + at half the recommended dosage (for scaleless fish like cats) and raised the temperature to 81 degrees for several days. Plenty of my other fish got the Ich, but only those 3 who already looked bad to begin with died.

Brilliant! Jus googled Kordon's Rid Ich + and this seems to be the stuff thanx.
Just having trouble finding any for sale in the UK.
Where did you buy yours or are you in the US?

I treated with this stuff the first time i got Ich and have to say it had the opposite effect for me.
My fish didnt seem to get any better after treating twice and it totally killed off my bio filter causing a mini cycle which just made matters alot worse.
Thanx anyway, im glad it worked for you but i think i want to find an alternative this time.

Loads of people online suggest simply adding aqaurium salt and raising the temp.

How effective is this method? And will Corys and Hoplos catfish tolerate salt?
Is there anybody with experience who has used this method who can give me the thumbs up??

Ideally if you can avoid cemicals and just treat with salt this seems to be the answer.

Corys are not tolerant of salt. I'm in the US and sourced that stuff pretty easily, but I'm sure you could find it somewhere in the UK.

Corys are tough because many species don't tolerate heat well, none tolerate salt, and they don't dig the medicine. But like I said, following the half dosing method worked for me and kept all my other Cory cats alive, even though they clearly developed Ich.

Ideally you are looking for a medicine that contains Malachite Green and Formalin (formaldehyde).
