Hello all,

After reading through an article on deceases, i have a suspicion of either internal bacteria or constipation in one of my platys, she is listless not eating although she does occasionally attempt a nibble , ALL fins are clamped even tail i have not seen her pass any poop she will just hide away some where quiet but comes to you when you look in the tank. she have definitely lost weight too, it is hard to tell if she has darkened in colour because she is deep red with black tail she has been like this for nearly two weeks i have put crushed peas in the tank recommended by a friend said it solves most constipation problems, but no change. all other fish are OK apart from a bit of stringy poop from a few platys that doesn't seem to bother them.

now over the weeks i have monitored water parameters. i had a slight fluctuation in ammonia which was dealt with and also 5ppm in NITRATE which i can not seem to shake off i do believe this is nothing to worry about.
i do 40% water changes weekly apart from the last 2 weeks where i was doing 25% every 4days
the tank has been running for atleast a year now
am i on the right track?
any ideas would be appreciated.

hi
ive had some success trating with interpets anti - internal bacteria med in the past also the new stuff from api - pimafix if you want to try something more 'natural' first. clear or white stringy poo is usually a sign of internal bacteria as youve suggested esp it the fish is not its normal self. it certainly sounds like some sort of 'bowel problem' is going on but if peas havent helped & with the clamped fins i would try a anti bacteria med............isolating her would be best if possible.
good luck

hi thanks if i am treating using what has been recomended would it be better to do the whole tank rather than just one? just thinking about the others being infected.
i do have 2x pepper cory 2x ancistrus and asyndontis something catfish would these be effected by the treatment? would it be better to remove them during treatment?

cheers
gareth.

You could move the poorly one's and just do some water changes on the main tank, good luck.
