my molly is suffering from fin rot (i can only see it on my black molly, half of its tail has now disintegrated), only spotted it a few days ago and went to the LFS for help, been using Myxacin for the last 3 days, still 2 days treatment to go but it doesnt seem to be helping. is there anything else i can do? should i be doing water changes while using the myxacin?

i was told not to use salt as i have corys in the tank?

What are your water stats as finrot is mainly due to bad water quality.
Is she struggling to swim.
Once livebearers lose half of there tails they tend not to make it.

If water quality is bad yes water changes, you just add the correct amount of med back to the water removed.

Bacerial finrot can take more than 3 days to heal, and if the water quality is bad that won't be helping the fins to heal.

i have heard that malachite green can help, but god forbid, dont but it in your tank. take the infected fish, out put it in a bucket, then add the m. green to the bucket.

thats whats getting me my water stats are fine, (0ammonia,0nitrate,0nitrite, ph 7.2) im not overstocked, the fish dont seem stressed, only thing thats changed recently was the addition of some driftwood and some plants.

she still seems to be able to swim ok, and is feeding like normal.

thanks for all your help wilder, always seems to be you that replies :good:

Ok thats fine then.
If she was struggling to swim thats a bad sign.
Good luck.

Sometimes finrot can be a secondary infections meaning something else is going off.

most of the tail is missing now, and it looks as if whats left has started going fluffy?
she's (he's?) constantly sitting at the top of the tank now moving very slowly.

is it almost time up for her?

The meds not doing much.
Can you issolate her for treatment.
I would go in with anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
Fungus can grow on dead tissue.

i cant isolate her yet, the 2nd tank i have isnt fullycycled and i dont think i'd be helping her any by putting her in there just now, what do you think?

i'll have a look for interpret meds, whats the name of the one you advise?

To be honest its looking like she not going to make it, so its up to you if you want to add the anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
You will have to do a water change and add some black carbon for aday before you can switch meds.
