I was just wondering if anyone new the instruction on how to treat a cycling tank with Maracyn Plus. I know that before the treatment is over I'm going to need to do a water change, which will mess up the concentration of medicine in the tank.

So, if someone knows the answers to these questions, I'd be very very thankful!

Is it dosed on days 1,3,5 to keep the concentration steady because the medicine looses it's effectiveness with time and therefore needs to be kept constant for the given treatment time?

Or is it dosed on days 1,3,5 to slowly raise the concentration of the medicine so as not to shock the fish, and therefore by day 5 the concentration is three times the starting dose?

I've been trying to call the company all morning but can't get a live person. I'm going to keep trying if no one knows the answer here.

Thanks!

Maracyn is not meant to alter stats so i hear.
A link for you its further down the page, though you will have to listen to madonna hope you are a fan.

Luckily I don't have a sound card here at work.

I've used Maracyn Plus in a cycled tank with only minor issues with the good bacteria.

The problem is that this tank is already cycling. Even without the meds, I'd be having to do water changes to keep the Nitrate levels in check until the cycle is done (would have been within a few days, but will probably be prolonged until after treatment).

And yeah, I had to treat. One of the snails has a bacterial infection - the same infection that killed a snail last month. :(

Ok, do you mean nitrites and not nitrates.

That's one of those things that my brain REFUSES to get straight. Like local towns versus cities in Eastern Europe... And the Oscars are the Emmy's.... And things like that..... :X I try, I really do.

Yeah. It's whichever is toxic at 1.0 ppm. (The blue test! :D )

I got a response from the company!

The "level only stays therapeutic for 48 hours".

Which means water changes can be done every 48 hours right before the next dose is due.

Just wanted to post this in case someone else has this question in the future!

Need to get the nitrites down with water changes then, good luck, keep us all up dated.
