Please help if possible, i'm pretty sure there's nothing i can do but if there is anything i want to do it. I noticed at lunchtime that there were only four of my five hatchett fish swimming around and after much looking for him i found him wedged in a hole in the ornamental castle :( I pulled him out and he looks in a bad way. He's still alive shockingly but he's been through much stress and he looks rather raggedy. His body has some small gashes. :( I feel terrible. I'm so sorry little fish, i should have thought :(

Any help please come forward, anyone had this happen to their fish?

Use some melafix to help heal the wounds

Tank is already being treated with Melafix so that should help? Thank you for that, i shall keep treating the tank. I think i need a miracle. Come on God, show me what ya got x

Melafix will do wonders for him. If needed you can possibly switch out Melafix for Stress Coat, but only if needed. Otherwise it should be just fine.

He looks in a pretty poor way. He's just been lying on the bottom of the tank, very shallow breathing. I've treated the tank with melafix, i dont know if it's doing any good :( x

When they lay on the bottom of the tank they always die sorry.
This isn't neccessarily true; particularly when due to simple environmental damage, although it is often the case.

The best thing for your fish is maintaining good water stats and aeriation.
Minimise stress keep the tank dark and quiet. Water change regularly to keep the tank water as clean as possible and as mentioned melafix should help prevent further infection. Keeping up aeriation means your fish doesn't have to work as hard for its oxygen while stressed out.
Althought twice daily water changes will keep the oxygen at a reasonable level.
Good luck.

That isn't entirely true. They sometimes survive.... Anyway, if he looks like he's suffering you may need to put him down. :( Look at humane ways even though they seem harsh.

He's just very listless, i don't think he'll be here in the morning. I'm just about to go to bed. Of course i will do everything to make him as comfortable and stress free as possible. I've been talking to him all night. Thank you for you positivity, it's a refreshing change x

I posted at the same time as MNBY, just making sure you noticed the post.
Also if you have a breeding trap set that up and leave him in there; closer to the surface=more oxygen and less chance of being finished off by your other fish.
:good:

I did as you advised, he still alive this morning. Not sure if thats a good thing or not. I'll do some water changes today x

Difficult to say, IMO its impossible to guess a fishes views on euthanasia.
Poorly phrased, not being sarcastic but i've just finished work and i'm tired.
How bad is he? Struggling physically or still lethargic?

It's ok, i don't expect any more help. There is nothing more i can do. He is safe in a quiet dimly lit tank with plenty or aeration going on. I think when they are in to bad a shape they shut down. He's lethargic, not a lot of movement there.

I've just got to work and i'm fed up. x
