What is the most ideal way to transfer my betta to it's new home hours away? Should i jug the water from the tank so when we stop I can at least put him back in his fish tank for awhille? ADVICE PLEASE. Im confused lol
Yeah just do that, if he has a filter, keep the media soaked in tank water to keep the bacteria alive.
Bag him with a heatpack and wrap the bag in newspaper and put it in a polystyrene box to transport him.
Use a snap shut bucket to put his water in, when you get to your new place, pour the water back in, turn the heater and filter on, wait for it to get to the right temp and bung him back in and he will never know he's moved!
I wouldn't bother putting him back into his tank until you have arrived.
Just put him in any container with a tight fitting lid... the bigger the better since it will hold the water temperature longer. Maybe even a gallon jug. Just make sure you leave room for enough air, or open the top periodically to let fresh air in. You could put the container in a cooler to help keep it warm, too.
Don't worry, bettas transport a lot more easily than most fish. Sure he will be stressed by it, but I bet within a couple hours of being back in his tank he will perk up and forget all about the trip.
It helps to bring water from the old tank and enough of the water from the old place to top the tank off. When I moved my tanks to the new house, I even went back home a week later for more water so I could use the old stuff in the tank for one more water change to keep them from stressing out from having to adapt to new water ontop of the move. Worked great and they all made it through.
If you just have a smaller bowl you can use some gallon jugs to transport water in. If you have something a little bigger, say 5 or 10 gallons, I'd suggest getting a 5 gallon bucket or two with lids to transport water in.
