Hi All

My contract based in Belgium is coming to an end next week. I would like to know what would be the best way to transport the fish back to the UK. I have large bags to put fish into, will seperate most into 1-2-3 fish a bag, may actually return the Pencil fish. Will have a polystyrene box or similar to what is used of importing to lfs, I have a cooler box somewhere. Would one of these heating packs be useful, if so where could I get one? Will I need to get pure oxygen or will there be sufficient amount when bagging up?

Any help appreciated, I know that this is not great to be transporting fish for 5-6 hours but I would like to keep them and bring them back to UK.

Thanks
Dave

Cheers, I think that I have read this before but had forgotten about it.

I have the box to transport, plastic bags, nets, storage barrels (One 25ltr and one 10 Ltr, should be sufficient)

Ok, so I need to get some O2 tablets (Think the lfs will have some) and heat pack, saying that they will be in the car which will be warm anyway but will get one just incase.

Thanks
Dave

5 to 6 hours is nothing. Don't feed small fish for 24 hours before bagging, larger for 36 to 48 hours. 1/3 water, 2/3 air, no O2 or tabs are needed for 5-6 hours. A cooler is best to retain heat, fill a spare bag or two with hot tap water to act as a heat pack.

I buy & sell fish at auctions, they are bagged for 12+ hours this way. The coolers go into the back of a pickup truck, last auction it was 10F outside.

Many Thanks for the information, will be a help when it comes to moving them next week. I think that I actually may take the beckford's back anyway, I do not think there is enough room for them.

I dont think the EU has customs or something like that. Us outsiders have to go thru everything to bring things into our countries :( I hate living on a this island. Cant bring jack sh*t in the country. Dont get me started on customs into australia. Sorry end of rant.

*grins* that's because of us being disease free, don't you know! God, they ram that down our throats all the time too!

Bozza, don't suppose you know if I can take fish on a plane? I'm going to QLD for a holiday next week and have heard that Betta's are cheap as, up there!

what about customs?

I checked customs just after I arrived in belgium, as i knew I would be ending contract at some point so rather than buy fish and return to lfs in belgium, I found out that transporting tropical fish through EU is fine and do not need any licences to do it.

There is a thread somewhere on the forums that I created, it asked the question back in Sept/Oct.

Cheers
Dave
