Last week i did a transfer and transferred all of my fish into a new tank, i don't know whether i made a mistake doing this but this is what i did:-

I am running the new filter in the new tank, also i am running the old filter from the old tank in the new tank alongside the new one.

I transferred alot of gravel from my old tank to my new tank, also i used over half of the water from the old tank and put it into my new tank.

Bear in mind that the tank i have transferred the fish into was a secondhand one that i picked up cheaply from a local paper and it had only just stopped being used before i purchased it.

I have all my fish in the tank and they seem fine really, they are playing and happily swimming around, i am also adding king british safewater into the tank to try and establish the bacteria quicker.

How long would it take to establish the beneficial bacteria bearing in mind what i have done above?

If I've read it correctly and you have basically moved everything from the old tank into the new one inc gravel, most of the water, the fish and the old filter then you shouldn't have any problems. If you are running a new filter alongside the old one then it will take at least 2 weeks to clone imho.

moving the water doesn't really affect the filter. It is better for the fish though since the temp and PH and other paramaters won't change much. There is practically no bacteria in the water. Most of it is in the filter pads.

yup the bacteria is held in the filter, run both filters on the tank for at least 2 weeks, but as long as you possibly can is best, we run 2/3 filters on all but the smallest of our tanks just to give extra filtration and then if one breaks or needs cleaning you've always got back up so it doesn't matter so much if you don't notice for a day or so. So unless you've any serious objections I'd keep both filters running on it full time. Your bacteria colony from the old tank is still there, but your new filter will be building up more. If your wanting to add more fish make sure you leave it a couple of weeks, then add more slowly (obviously bearing in mind you don't overstock adn pay attention to the compatibility of the fish).
