I've kept all four of the above mentioned livebearers and in my experience, Guppies are the toughest and after them Platies and Swords and finally Mollies who are extremely disease prone fish :/ . In my experience platies and swords are roughly the same.

1 Guppies!!! :flex: So little...but very tuff... usually, they dies from old age or from a fight.
2 Platies are strong to.

my first ever tropicals were platies, 5 nearly 6 years ago (I was 12 at the time) - they were able to survive a 12-year-old Amateur fishkeeper...so I'd say THEY were tough!

Hi all,

Oh I seem to be doing something wrong then. I seem to lose all my guppies (mainly the females) and have better success with platties. Even in my mess I call a fish tank at the moment (i think from our weather, loss of power etc) my baby platties lived to tell the story but ALL bar 2 adult guppies lived. I did lose some adult platties too .. and I was having such a great run .. then a huge mess which I have not sorted out yet.

Why would this be so. I like the guppies better. Do they prefer more salt in the water or higher temps (currently heater is at 26) but never goes on as it is sitting way up in the 30's due to our heat.

Thanks
desley

what about white clouds, they are quite tough, some places sell them as feeder fish but they are to colorful to be feeders and are great for beginners, plus don't need heaters, but also can live with them

are they not conseidered live bearers even though they bear live??????????

i picked platies because mine never die. Then swords because mine didnt die unless the male i hav killed them. And then guppies becues they die more then swords and platies. Mollies are last because the dont last for me.

WCMM lay eggs :) ;)

Everyone's saying guppies (almost) but the one's I've had the most success with are mollies. Then I would say guppies, platies, and finally swordtails.
