Hey guys,

I am new to fish keeping and wanted some advice about my next step. I have a small tank, 26litres (about 6 gallons I think?!) and it has been set up for two weeks now (with fish in it). I initially had some issues with my plants' roots not taking, but went back to my local fish shop in Bethnal Green and they were really helpful. After everything was stable, they said I was alright to put some fish in. I now have 5 neon tetras and 1 dwarf gourami, and all seem to be very happy! The neons have grown loads; they are now 3cms long and have actually got some real character! The Gourami hasn't really grown, but seems to be getting on well with everything in the tank. I can't get to the fish shop this weekend, so it will be three weeks in total that I have had fish in my tank when I go to get my water tested (I was told this would be a good length of time considering the size of my tank.)

Thing is, my tank does look pretty sparse! I want to put more fish in it, but the general advice I've read on forums like this one seems to suggest that the 6 fish I have are enough for the tank I've got.

If I take some photos of my tank as it is and post them on here, would someone be able to clarify if this is true?

Thank you so much.

With slim bodied fish like nt you can get away with overstocking by a couple of fish if you have a mature filter but seeing as your not cycled yet I would wait

If you feel like your tank looks sparse, add some more plants rather than adding more fish. If you have a 6 gallon tank, keeping anymore than 5 or 6 fish is chancy (especially in a new cycle). Wait out the cycle and if you do put in more fish, I can't stress enough how important perfect water quality is. So that means doing water changes every week without fail in an overstocked tank.

The fish you have are all juviniles & will grow bigger. You need to take into account the adult size when stock checking.

How did you cycle your tank?
