hi all very new to this havnt even brought a tank yet just reading into all the advice.before i take the next step and go get a tank.

You're doing the best thing.

I also would reccomend the three R's

Decide what fish you want to keep then Research, Research and Research some more. The more information you find out, the more you will understand about your fish tank ecology and the fish you are keeping.

Welcome to the hobby and good luck!

thanks mate im only doing it this way because id be gutted buying all the wrong things only to find out at a later date.

because as we no most people in shops will just say anything to get the sale

I would also suggest you find as many fish shops in your area as you can. Visit them, look at their stock, is it generally healthy, or can you see tanks with whitespot, lots of dead fish etc.

Also talk to the staff, find the shops that will really give you good advice, almost seem reluctant to sell you fish that will be incompatible or into an unsuitable tank.

You any ideas on what you want to keep yet?

no not sure which fish i want to keep yet im going to a shop later on today to talk to staff about it.

it would be nice to start off with somthing that isnt going to cause me massive problems untill i get used to it more.
any advice would be appreciated i am reading though the forum for this thanks again

most common live bearers are easy to take care of, and require little in the way of advanced water chemistry...

however some of the larger chiclids such as angels can be easy to look after too and are so beautiful. they were the first fish i stocked with.

welcome to the hobby your doing the same as me i came here to research before i bought my first tank and have learnt so much in the last 8 months

thanks for the advice .i have put a tank that im looking at in the hardware section.dont no is this would be a good 1 to start with.or if the equipment that comes with it will be anygood
