Hi guys im new here.

I have never owned any type of tropical fish but thought that this seems like such a great hobby and was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to go about things. im investing in a few books too but anyone with experience would be great. just the beginner things such as rough price, starter fish, process once the aquarium is bought, set up etc. thanks in advance guys!

Wow great and fast responses cheers everyone. What about price? What am I looking at to start off?

That all depends on how big of a tank you want... :p

It can be an expensive hobby so dont buy anything new if you can help it. There are always lots of second hand tanks/stands/filters etc available.

The basics you will need to start are a Fishtank, somthing to stand the tank on, A filter, Aquarium lights, some decor, a liquid based water test kit, some dechlorinator liquid & a bottle of houshold ammonia.

please click on the link in my sig to the begineers resource centre & have a good read up on the nitrogen cycle & methods of cycling.

Thanks guys. just thought if give u an update. Just bought the tank. it's not huge at 50 litres so I'm going to start small. I also purchased some testing kits and all the other bits. Just need to get my ammonia now!

We all start somewhere :)

I'm sure you'll be telling us you have bought an even bigger tank soon ;)
