Hi,

Looking at adding a top up filter to my tank which does not have a sump.

Has anybody got any experience of doing this and if so what are the best manufacturers? Is it fairly easy to do?

Thanks

D-D do a good one. About £100 for the standard one and £120 for the one used direct from your RO unit (my LFS quotes)

make sure you use plastic mounts on the sensors, as the suction cups are prone to sliding down and leavin the tank without being topped up.

Sorry but how are D-D?

Tunze claim their "Osmolator" (available for £115 online) works for tanks both with and without sumps; I have one squeezed into my sump rather than having even more kit sitting inside the tank, but no reason it can't be used in the main tank. But get yourself a sump, you'll never look back :)

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

What kind of container would you need to use on the D-D system? The cheapest quote I have seen on line is £264 for the whole set up but this means the container is approximately £150 which seems very expensive.

I would love to add a sump to my existing set up but can`t drill it now that I have set it up. Any advice on how to achieve this at a reasonable price would be appreciated though.

People usually use just a plain small glass tank, if you could get a small oump to go into a jerry can then that would be good. Or sit a pump ontop of the jerry can, hole cut the top and run some flexi pipe into it from the pump

Thanks Ben.

If I added a small tank would I need to keep just RO in there or could you add a sand/calerupa mix or mud system as well to aid filtration?

it would be just an RO tank. The bacteria in sand and mineral mud wouldnt survive in cold fresh RO water.

Im going to do mine in a jerry can with a modified lid, then i can just swap them over at teh RO unit and they are air tight too. Also take up less space than a tank with a bigger footprint.
