Does anyone know of a good top up system for a RED Sea max 250 litre tank?

I have been advised that they need to be incorporated within a sump. Is this true or are there systems that do not need this?

I like the idea of having a mud or deep sand with calerpa sump but as the tank is now set up do not want to drill it.I have seen hang on ones but they seem too small and ideally I would want to put it in the cupboard out of sight.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I got a cheap one (cant remember where from though unfortunately) Its just a dosing pump and a float switch so doesnt have to go in a sump at all. Just mount the float switch in the tank at the water line, put the dosing pump and bottle of RO underneath and thats it.

I would recommend making a gaurd to go around the float switch (stops shrimp from hanging on it) and also dont rely on suction cups to hold it (fairly easy to DIY a bracket from acrylic to hang on the side of the tank).

I've been interested in one of these myself as it is a PITA to keep on topping up the RO water daily. I was thinking though, if you have a sump then th float switch would have to go in there too wouldn't it? Since the water level will only fall in the sump and not the display tank, since the level in there is maintained by the feed from the sump pump.

Exactly, If you have a sump then you put the float switch in the sump. If you don't then it goes in the display.
