my tank seems very empty at the top of the tank, can any 1 suggest fish who usealy stay near the top thanks so far i only no.i hav a 35 g tank

hatchet fish
pencil fish

There are varieties of top dwelling Killifish. The best ones to use if the other tank inhabitants are small (sml tetras etc) are Pseudepiplatys annulatus or rocket panchax. The strain from Monrovia is more strikingly colourful in the finnage. Others peaceful Killis are the smaller Epiplatys such as Dageti. Steer clear of Golden Wonders (Aplochelius Lineatus gold) Golden Panchax. These are fine when they are small but they get to over 4" when adult and are very predatory.
Or how about some of the smaller varieties of Gourami such as honey or sparkling. Then there are the Danios. Leopard, Pearl or Zebra etc.
I hope this was of some help

cheers bud gives me some things to think about, what bout angels?i have a commuinty tank

Angels swim everywhere, not just the top.

I have a great fondness for halfbeaks (wonderfully active, and breedable) and hatchetfish (lively, very tame). My silver hatchets were hand-feedable within a couple of days. When I stick my arms in the tank to clean up or move plants, they bite me! They have big mouths, and will eat small earthworms... very fun to watch. Be sure and get the silver hatchets, they seem the hardiest. Marble hatchets are smaller and not so easy to keep.

Cheers,

Neale

White Clouds stay at the top too and they're nice peaceful fish! :)

My danios are all over the place though, they seem to swim wherever they want to! lol

I'd second the White Cloud Mountain Minnows... btw, hatchets jump...

Yes, but hatchetfish are FAR more fun than WCMMs. I'm watching mine now... some are chasing each other about, and the others are in the corner staring at me, waiting for some more food. They're totally underrated fishes, considered delicate only be people who don't keep them properly. In soft to neutral water, they're tough as old boots. The fact they're quite large and look weird is an added bonus. Try 'em; you'll like 'em.

Cheers,

Neale

PS. Yes, they do jump. But so do some of my other fish, including 3 species of halfbeak and (bizarrely) a South American puffer which I found one morning inside the filter. Make sure your tank has a hood, and problem solved.
