Hi,

I have recently bought a 63litre tank. I have put down between 1-2 cm of medium gravel and between 3-5cm of play sand on top of this.

Is having this much sand too much? I will be having live plants in the tank so hoping the roots will stop any gases from getting trapped.

I'm also looking to get 6 salt and pepper/pygmy cory's, 2 Bolivian Rams plus male guppys.

Cheers,

Dave.

Most recommend 1.5 inches of sand substrate. My sand varies from 1 to 2 inches so about 5 cm at its thickest. You are pretty thick on the bottom but might be okay. This whole thing about gases is not well supported in my view. I never stir my sand and don't seem to have a problem with "gases". Plants will help at any rate.
