before, the PH in my tanks would drop quickly in a short time after a water change. (from 6.6 out of the tap to below 6.0 in a few days)
as suggested from this forum, i had been adding a bit of baking soda into the water to bring KH to about 3 degrees. (tap is 0) this helped, but also bought PH up to 7.4~7.6 range.
and a week later, the PH would drop back to 6.X range, and KH would drop from about 3KH down to 1KH
last week, I removed about 80% of the plants from the tank, along with all the smudge that are stuck on the roots.
a week later, PH stayed at 7.4~7.6, and KH stayed at 2.
and ammonia actually stayed at 0 (before, it would never reach 0, but stay at around 0.25)
Does (dead/dying/declaying) plants really affect PH? or is it the smudge that i removed that stoped the water condition from getting bad?
