hi- im doing the whole ricca thing for the first time. i followed the pinned article pretty closely- ie- the slate on the mesh, the ricca on the slate, tie it all up. before it put it in the tank though i wanted it to bush up a little. right now i have it sitting in a piece of tupperware in about 2-3 gallons of water and i have an old hood with a 15w bulb over it so it actually is pulling anywhere from 5-7 wpg. it will be going into a 10 gallon tank w/ 4 wpg. is this current situation too much light though. it bulb is only about 4-5 inches from the ricca- its really close. any suggestions/advise greatly appreciated.

thanks,
beez

Cant see it being a problem short term, the only thing i would worry about is the temperature of the riccia, check its not getting cooked other wise it will melt.

Yeh would be fine, anubias really suffer when there is lots of light but not really heard of other plants suffering in the same way. Being a floating plant it must be used to higher temperatures and lots of light anyway?

Ive got nearly 7WPG on my nano and it seems ok, plants love it too. Not tried riccia in there yet but would think it'd be fine :)

Just out of interest why do you need it in the pot before it goes into the tank? The tank would seem like a better place for it than a small pot?

thanks for the advise. i am not adding co2 but i am fertalizing. i have it in the pot just b/c i was hoping to let it bush up and get anchored a little bit so it wouldnt make quite such a mess when it does go in there.

The w/g ratio breaks down in smaller tanks, so even though you may have 5-7 w/g in that small tank, it still amounts to low light. Don't ask me why, it just does.

Good point, but I wouldn't necessarily call it 'low light' I've got HC to create a great carpet in 7WPG on a 24lt and it'll only do that in high light.

I would certainly want it, think it might be risky without it.
