Hi,
I am currently running an fx5 on a 40 gallon. Would that be too much current or filtration for the fish?

Thanks

A Fluval FX5? A cannister filter!
Is this a joke? :shout:

Edit:
Just seen its a 40g and not 1g, sorry. Yes thats fine, aslong as the current isnt too strong

I dont think that you can overfiler, just watch out that the current isnt too strong. :good:

how can i lower the current ? i read something about a spray bar. will that spray bar reduce the filtration efficiency?

THanks

its imposable to over filter, just some fish dont like the strong current prodused with some filter - tank ratio

i was wondering since the spray bar has small holes - would that slow down the gph rate?

they spray bar will just let the water out of the filter into the tank, if the fillters on max all that will happen is more water per second will come out. you can usualy ajust the speed.
ill get so pics to explain later.

I realized that even after using a spray, the curent is pretty strong; right now im putting the spray bar facing the wall in the back. Should that be ok?

If the current is too strong, try drilling larger holes in the spray bar. The mass flow will stay the same, or may even increase a little if you are removing a restriction, but the velocity of the water will decrease.

Dave.

I agree with Dave, this is exactly what I have done with my filter. I would avoid pointing the spray-bar against the side of the tank, but that is just my personal opinion. Although it may depend on it's position in relation to the intake. If the spray bar is at opposite ends you may get away with it as this will help to ensure their is movement of water around the tank and you are not causing any deadspots.

I would try the bigger/more holes route first.
