too many plants..

is it possible to have too many?

i cant ever imagine not enough fish sh*t to provide the nitrates required!

the reason i ask is im ordering 110 plants for my 30 gallon.

i want lots of cover for my fish to hide, with only a frontal clear space

I tend to go plant crazy and I have to be careful that the fish actually have a good amount of space to swim in. At one point I noticed my angels just hanging stationary and once I opened up some space they started cruizing.

Yep, when you're starting a tank, that's the way to kill the algae before it even starts.

Wow! That is a lot of plants for a 30 gallon! I suppose it depends on what kind of plants they are.

I have about 10 plants in my 30 gallon and am adding 2 more soon. My plants grow like crazy so I have to keep pruning them back and I have used clippings to fill my 25 gallon tank too.

It's about finding the right balance. Your fish should have enough space to swim and enough shade to be comfortable.

You can always get another tank for the plants if you have too many.

ii thought there was an ever battle with algae...

it will be initially for the bucktooth tetras, who may eat them all, however they are more into the meaty food.. but if i get the pikelivebearers, they're likely to want to hide all day anyway, pouncing on their prey.

I take it your ordering online - 110 plants is counted on an individual basis.

If you get a good sized clump of a pland it'll be made up of 10-20 'plants'

We ordered a similar figure and got about 15 'plants'
