too many? just enough?

I have 10-gal that is almost done cycling. I have 1 pair of guppies and am planning on getting a 2nd female. I also have one neon (the others died during cycling... didn't know they were weak), which I can either get rid of or add more to. I am thinking of adding 1 male gourami and few cory cats to this. Will that be ok? If not the gourami then a few platys.
The tank is also well planted with live plants.

I don't know much about guoramis, but 1male 2female guppys and 3 corys will be fine; i'd rehome the neon and just get a couple of platys.

Most gouramis get pretty big. What kind of gourami are you looking to get? Something like a dwarf gourami or honey gourami would be good.

Oh yeah, definitely a dwarf. If I get rid of the neon (do you think the pet store would take him back?), could I get the 3rd guppy, a dwarf male gourami, 3 cory cats and a few platys?

If you want the gourami, i'd;
a. rehome the neon, its unlikely to survive on its own anyway.
b. Get another female guppy.
c. Get 3 corys

and leave getting the platys.
On the other hand i've noticed you've got some bad tank problems at the mo so i'd sort those out first and rehome the neon and then buy the fish after you've finished cycling your tank . Remeber not to get everything at once too and make sure everythings good and constant in the tank otherwise you may cause it to mini cycle or just get ammonia or bacterial blooms etc.

If I was you, I would leave it how it is. You have a good amount of fish for the 10 gal. Even if you got a dwarf gouramis, I believe that with the three guppies that you have, and the corys, anymore would be to many. If you did get a gouramis, they are known to be aggresive, so if you only had one they would end up picking on the guppies. You would need at least 3-4, and that is to many for a 10 gal.

Leave neons completely, just rehome your current one because it will be months before your tank becomes suitable for them.
Maybe you should leave the gourami like kgrehm said as im don't know all that much about them. Your tank should be fine with 3 to 4 corys and guppys, i'd add 1 or 2 more females and leave it at that.

what about adding some platys? Of course, this is all after the tank has cycled good. Now that I know about the cycling it has to go through, I don't want to harm any other fish by adding them too early or too many at one time.

I was thinking that the end result could be 3 guppies (1m, 2f), 3 cory cats, and 2-3 platys. Would that be ok once the tank is established?

Also, is there anything I can do with the neon, other than take it back to the store and hope they'll take it?
