I just saw that in one of my quarantine tanks...a female guppy has a discoloration on her back and it looks very irritated...


I have these to meds...will one work or should i buy something else

If you have fin rot then use Mardel Tetracycline as it says Tetracycline Tablets: Antibiotic tablets recommended for the treatment of popeye, fin and tail rot, gill disease, and secondary infections.

Exactly what do you mean by irritated? Is there red streaks forming in the tail, is it being eaten away, are the edges becomming jagged? Also, what are your water stats (Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH)? These are very important for us to know when we are helping you.

You definately don't want to use the parasite med, this doesnt' sound parasitical at all. It could be bacterial (and most likely is), which the tetracycline woudl be good for. However a word of caution, tetracycline can wipe out the good bacteria in your filter, so watch your water stats when using it. Other options would be combining maracyn and maracyn 2, or kanacyn (aka kanamycin, k-mycin).
