William T. Innes was born 151 years ago today (February 2, 1874 – February 27, 1969). I think this should be a national holiday with all pet shops and on-line suppliers offering Innes Day sales and all public aquariums providing free admission.

You beat me to the punch . This is also the birthday of Dr. Innes’ esteemed editor Professor George Sprague Myers of Stanford University . February 2 , 1905 - November 4 , 1985 . Dr. Innes makes mention of their same birthdays in his book and goes on to praise Professor Myers as does Myers for Dr. Innes .

This would not extend to Dr Axelrod's birthday, where there could be dodgeball tournaments with "taxes" written on the dodgeballs, and we could all give each other fake violins. We could give each other cash to name species after each other - for a day, all your fish could answer to 'Gary'.

Innes Day would be a way more dignified affair. it might not catch on in 2025.

Indeed. And Dr. Myers named the neon tetra--P. innesi-- after his colleague and birthday twin.

I always thought that was at the root of Axelrod's Innes-envy.

Two very different men . One a gentleman and very dignified , the other not so much but such is life .

With over 35k fishes species. A birthday calendar with more than a hundred to celebrate per day.

Can keep a whole year of celebrations going for me.
