I have two tanks. a 75g containing a BGK, firemouths, red eyed tetras, danios, and a pleco. A 20g brackish with two GSPs.

I like to feed my puffers snails, but can't seem to get a hold of enough. I sometimes can talk the fishstore guy into throwing in some pest snails when I get ghost shrimp, but I never have enough and I worry that perhaps I am not giving them enough hard things to keep their beaks worn down.

Despite having a decent amount of plants in my 75 I have never seen a snail in the tank. I have seen some tanks with many pest snails and don't desire that look, but I have considered putting some snails in to get a reproducing supply of hard shelled puffer food.

My questions- 1) Why haven't I seen snails in my 75? Are any of the fish in the 75 eating any snails that show up, have I never had a snail egg in there, or do I just not over feed so there is no food for the would be snails, am I just "lucky"?

2) If I put snails in the 75 how hard will it be to get rid of them, if I were to no longer need them or (more likely) I just dislike the look and want them gone?

Note: I've done some searches on this, and have heard the various ways, but I guess I'm really asking for a first hand experience of how well some of those tactics worked?

Thanks for all the help folks

Try another LFS! All those I've asked have been happy to give me snails for free, and a lot of the time I don't even buy things from them...
