Would 73w over my nano 24lt tank be too much? Thinking of upgrading to an luminaire, that's got 3x 24w T5 tubes. That works out at 3WP Liter!!! or 15WPG! :S Or should I go for one with 2x24w T5s?

Sam

>.> As long as you keep ther algea away what is the problem? haha. I dunno.. someone will i am sure.

Is this a luminaire from ebay? Seen quite a few of these on there now.
One thing worth noting is that i think they come with marine tubes, so you'll probably want to upgrade to the arcadia plant pro T5's or something similar.

Why not try working out the lumens per cm like george did in his journal? That will give you the best idea of the lighting levels for the nano tank. Only thing is i'm not sure what's high light and low light with the reading you get. i did ask george about this, if maybe he could add something to the pinned topic or had an idea, but he's gone away.

Yeh cheers I know about the bulbs needing replacing. I could work out the surface area thing, but Im far to lazy!

Cheers all the same

Sam

Shouldnt be a problem providing you add good Co2 levls etc.
All you would need to do is cut the time the lights are on down to around 7 or 8 hours instead of 10!

I have 9WPG in my cube.
I saw THIS LINK ( Lighting as a function of tank size!!!)about how Amano lights up his tanks. It sugests that the smaller the tank the more Watts are used and the bigger the tank the less Watts used.

Have a read.

R,
Graeme.

That's an excellent link Graeme, thanks. Not seen it before, worth remembering for future tanks, the author certainly put in some effort working in all out! Would also be useful when explaining to newbies about lighting levels, etc.

Thanks again

Sam

thats some link...

some one has a wee bit too much time on his hands...

It is an intersting artical and it does hold some truth.

Have you tried using the calculator to compare how your WPL or WPG is to how amano's WPG or WPL are on his tanks??????

Acording to the calculator, my nano cube should have 32 watts over it. I mean WOW thats alot!!!!!

So i think you should be ok Sam mate

Yeh gone for the 3x24w. That article would explain why when I had 56w over my 20g high it didn't cause algae before I added CO2!

Sam

It also could explain why my when my 8g was an EI tank with 54ppm CO2 why it still had terrible algae issues. Not enough light. I needed like 90W over that 8g to make EI work! I only have 24W. It's probably a low-light tank, like 1.5WPG in a larger tank. Fascinating article Moody, thanks for sharing. Definitely saved it.

I think you'll be fine Sam, especially with EI and pressurized CO2. Can't wait to see this new scape.

llj :)

Well, I was away from a computer over the weekend and was out bid by just £1.29!!! totally gutted woudl ahve loved the lighting, gonna be an xmas present so would have been a while until I got them but would have been cool.. Guess I'll have to see if more get listed.

Cheers Llj, hopefully it wouldn't disappoint :)
