I am about to order a light off the internet. I have a 29 gallon tank and I was wondering if a light with 192 watts is too much for the tank. That wattage would be about 6.6 wpg

It really depends on the type of plants you have, but vast majority of plants will not benefit from it. Some low light plants may actually die.

I have 6.5 watts, and everything does fine, in fact I can grow anything, its just having the nutrients and co2 to go with it.

i have about the same wpg , 72w on a 60L, the biggest problem is getting the co2 and ferts spot on.
With that type of lighting power any problems tend to come at you tenfold. If you can master it plant will grow wild .

I would advise against that much light unless you are fairly experienced or at least have a good understanding of the interactions between light, CO2, nutrients, algae and plants. I recommend you read the pinned articles. Pay particualr attention to the "Getting it Right From the Start" part of the algae article.

If you understand these fully then go ahead (carefully), if not then any questions you may have will be answered here to the best of our ability.

I personally would not run anything over 4 WPG in a 29 Gallon or larger. There is simply no need for more light that this - the balance between algae growth or plant growth would be a knife edge.
