some discy companions, my discus is so cute and doesnt seem to mind being my himself, he doesnt look lonely to me, but still it plays on my mind shall i get him some friends, but i dont want him to get beat up cos then i will be sad :(, he's so cute he watches me when im in the room and he follows me or swims to the side of the tank i am on, it mite sound crazy but i think he likes to see me lol and recognizes me, i can see it in his little face...awwww opps went a bit off track there  so yea....new friends or not???

Well, if you're doing it because you want to have more Discus, give it a try. If you're doing it for him, just leave it as is. If he's happy, well then don't change anything. You're right, you never know if he could get a beating, or deliver it himself.

If you have lots of plants, well then i'd give it a try, but i've heard bad things about adding cichlids to an already-running tank. Few good, mostly bad.

if you do try it, just have a spare tank where you can put your new guy in case it doesn't work out with your old discus.

good luck and have fun :)

Is he a small discus?
If so, yes you should get him companions. Get atleast 5 more.
And when getting them, get them roughly the same size as the one you have now to prevent bullying.
