hey guys i have a 12 gallon heavily planted community tank all with small peaceful fish (tetra, khuli, platy etc)
and i will soon be upgrading to a 21 gallon which will give me *counts* around 8 gallons to play with (yeay)
i was thinking about getting one of these,

but i dont know much on them - only that they like cool water

has anyone had any exp with this fish? i have read up a bit and they sound great and are beautiful.
also, any idea where i can find one?

thanks

Look really interesting but the only place on TFF that has stock is:

Koi & Co
Stansted Park Garden Centre
Rowland's Castle
Hampshire
PO9 6DX

Not to bad for me but I suspect way to far for you.

As they prefere cooler temps you wil need a tank with alot of oxygen. Otherwise they are likley to just sit there all day and not want to move.

Hillstream loaches are sub-tropical fish, they need a mature tank set up with very strong filtration
(to re-create the icey strong river currents they are so often found in) and thrive best with a fresh source of algae in the tank.
Keeping these loaches in a sub tropical tank is very nesarsary, often when put into tropical tanks they either starve or slowly suffocate (they body shape is designed for rivers or streams v=with very strong and well oxygenated water) as oxygen disolves less at warmer temps and these are fish that certainly do best in very well oxygenated tanks.

ahh ok thanks for the info!
well im not 100% sure weather my tank will cater its needs, so ill do some more looking into it
i dont have a heater in my tank so its basically as cold as itll ever get, i have a air stone on about 18 hours a day and my filter gives off a strong current.

my tank is about 6 months old, by the time i get my new setup itll be about 8-9 months old
