i have an orange male guppy, had a blue one, and have 2 females. my orange male is kind of on the aggressive side and has killed 2 males already but hasnt harmed the females. should i buy another male that is more aggressive, take the orange one out or buy another female?

hi
I have only this very day brought my first guppies :)
From my reasearch on these fish this is what I can tell you

it is best to keep all males in a group of 6 or more
the same goes for females.
If you keep males and females together the best ratio is
3 to 1. thats 3 females to 1 male.

I'm sure that more experianced guppie keepers
will either confirm or deny this, but it is only what
I have read and digested.

I find males in general are well mannered with each other if kept in a same sex tank. It's only when my males have females present that competiition begins. Males start chasing others males in attempt to attract the female first. My most aggressive male guppy was only aggressive because of females present. A couple months later I decided to split my tanks up into seperate sexes and his aggression nearly decreased by half.
Either create more shelter for male victims to run to or seperate your sexes. If you were to add more males(which you shouldn't do since your ratio is already under), than your females will become overly harassed and stressed.
Good luck! :)

If u are lookin to breed i would get two more females and take the blue male and put those three in a seperate tank. but if you not u might want to make a choice for which one u want to get rid off. And gettin a more aggressive male will only make the problem worse. :dunno:
