This fish has had finrot from day one and refuses to get rid of it. Everytime he even starts to look better i will wake up and he will look like crap agian. But whenever he gets it bad one of my other rainows now gets it as well. I have tried fungus meds and melafix. The other fish will all heal up in a few days, but he never has fully healed since new any ideas? Hospital tank he just got worse in as it is half the size of his home tank. Fish originally got fin rot ( or suspect) when lfs packed him in only 2" of water for xport and fish was flopping around the whole time. I didnt realize it until i got home and quickly got him in the tank. That was about 6 weeks or more ago and nothing has changed on his appearence since.

what have you treated him with?

I suggest a med that has sodium chloride as an active ingredient like Ectopur or Mycopur by Sera or Fungus Guard by Jungle, all of which are available in the US

HTH

i have treated with melafix and primafix...i do have access to Jungle meds and might give them a try. All fish will heal fine, but the red never seems to fuly heal. He has only 3/4 coat of shiny scales and the rest are dull. His fins will start looking better and all fish will look good and then bam i will wake up to him looking like crap agian and the process starts all over agian...i have done this 4-5 times. I decided to try 10% water changes daily and treatments to see what it does....he feeds fine and shoals fine, its just his color and all looks like CRAP!

Fin rot is bacterial not fungal so what you are using wont help. Try maracyn and keep the water tested to make sure its good and use cycled water if he is in a hospital tank. Using a small amount of salt will keep the fungus away but it takes several weeks for finrot to be cured and regrowth to show.

will try maracyn over the weekend and see what comes of it. Melafix is for finrot from what i have heard. Primafix is fungal. I began using both after just Melafix was not working. But will try these other to see what they do.

sodium chloride will cure fin-rot, trust me on this one
