instead of waisting your time with a cycle you can take water from another tank and out it in and shortens the cycle alot, some tiems no need for cycles
Sorry that is not true. All you are doing is transferring bad bacteria and any disease, the water contains nothing beneficia to a new tank.

Filter foam and/or gravel works a treat though. :D

For cheap tanks, always try local papers and ad sites. Ebay is good but not usually any good unless you happen to find something near you.

My 20g was a good deal at $30 Canadian about 23$ US with aquara clear 150, a hood, and air pump bubble bar and tubes.therometer.and its a hagen, it was the biggest fluke tho we went to buy used seatsa for my sisters car and he had a fish tank in his garge i asked how much he said 30$ But i cant find anyhting large! I did find a 70g for 200$ but it sold very fast :X

Yep i know exactly what you mean! :( Anyone in sydney know any good shops for bargins? haha

Yeah I know how it feels to not be able to find what you need used. Just need to be patient and opportunistic. Browse Yard sales, swapmeets, and church auctions. You'll find that perfect tank eventually!

**Build a support structure. make sure you lfs owner or manager knows you and what you want :- . Having some way to contact you is also useful :D**

**knowing managers also makes getting the weird stuff easier and cheaper too. Don't be shy, they know that pleasing you means a loyal customer coming back to them time after time 8-D**

yup, or if you live plant, transfering plants can help a lot too. But that's the same thing.

Keep predatory fish that only need to be fed once or twice a week, even better keep huge predatory fish and feed them cats which you can steal from the neighbourhood :shifty:

 but seriously, buy the bulk packs of frozen food and you can save a small fortune. Also instead of buying fancy flouresent tubes from the lfs just use normal household tubes which cost a fraction of ammount.

buy fish that breed easy and look good breed them and sell them to people who are new and dont know how much they are worth.....rip them off if they had the chance they would do the same :D :p :D

Sneak into B&Q and you'll find they have some lovely wall paper - you can tear off as big a sample as you want - even enought for a 4ft tank. I got the black/silver metallic bubble design! Cool!

Also I made a breeding net out of Kinex and a stocking! It's, er.... colourful!!!

E.bay is great for deals on tanks and used stuff. I got my tank in sig below for half retail price and still new in the box!!. There are lots of bargains out there you just need to go looking ;) :)

also on your whisper type of pads I just empty the carbon, rinse the pad out in a bucket of declorinated water add carbon back in and I am good to go. I can go 6months to a year on one of those filters.
