Hi - ive noticed about 50 or 60 tiny snails around my tank with eggs attached to the sides. could you help me ged rid of them? are there any algeae eating dish that like to eat them??

thanks

What you can do if you have any space in you tank is get a few yoyo loaches which love eating snails (especially small ones :good: ). When I clean out my fish a load of tiny snail shell come up in the gravel vacum when I suck around where they like to hide out. Some aquatic dealers might agree to have the fish back (normally for a price  )

well i have only got small community fish in my tank - are yo yo's small community fish??

well yoyo loaches are fine for community fish as they get about 2" long and I have them in my tank. They don't seem to bother any of my smaller fish such as my neaon tetras and leopard danios.

Why exactly do you want to get rid of them?

Unless you've got a species that eats plants (which most pest snails do not), they make fine additions to a tank. They'll eat algae and leftover food. The reason they breed so easily is because you're either over-feeding or not cleaning the tank out enough or as regularly as needed.

The snails are just growing to a population that can be supported by the amount of food in the tank, if you limit that food source the population will start to decline to lower amount.

If you must get rid of them, botia snails will work. DO NOT use a snail killing chemical, as the sudden increase in decaying material can cause an ammonia spike unless you remove them all.
