I have recently had a white spot problem and have lost three fish, I'm nearly at the end of the treatment, but have noticed some very small creatures that are on the glass near the waterline, they look like tiny pink mites, they're very very small indeed, could these be the free swimming whitespot or might it be something else?

I've lost 2 green Puffer Fish , one Orange Pike and a Rope fish and am concerned that my Clownloach are rather inactive.

Help Please

Hey
Could be planaria. But I dont think they are harmful and your fish will eat them probably.
Get rid of the white spot first, make sure its gone completely, then see if they are still there.
Whitespot is a bugger, sorry you lost your nice fishies. Clowns are very very prone to it im sorry to say, any changes in temp, stress, ammonia levels, ph moving around can cause it, and it spreads like wildfire.
Keep treating as per the instructions and dont worry too much about anything else.
Once your finished and the ich has gone, do a 25% water change and add some carbon, but do make sure its gone first.
Good luck. :good:

Thanks very much for the advice, I lost one of my two Clown Loach this morning, but I think the White spot has gone.

They seem to be very sensitive to water quality. I was a little slow at starting the whitespot treatment, but i've got some in stock now.

How effective is raising the temp?

The treatment instructions suggest that to speed up the life cycle, Currently it's at 28Deg. I normally have it about 25deg.
Would a UV filter help reduce further whitespot problems

Thanks for the help, very much appreciated

they say turn up the heat to speed up the cycle, cos you can only kill white spot when it's free swimming. i think, something on them lines any way.

sorry about your fish, it's always a bugger when you lose them.

Yes, it's such a shame to loose the fish. I'll have to quarantine any new fish for much longer in future. (2 weeks I think is best)
I'm lucky enough to have a 70L tank spare, much easier to clean than my 450L main tank

Cheers again guys
