A while back I lost 2 neons to some strange diesese. I didn't know what is was and wrote it off as a fluke, although I lost some guppies and then I got suspicous. It was the gaps that had me stumped. as much as 2 - 3 weeks apart but I couldn't seem to fin any symptons. The fish had different problems. Some would lounge around gasping for air. Others loose strength and lay down. My LFS said it was water problems so I did a water change re checked my parameters but everythings good. My neons have been off colour and my sucking cat died. Now i've finally pinned some symptoms. Another of my flame tetras are sick and its ailments are as follows: Swolled red gills. White mark on tail which is ripped. The eye has a white spot in it. Most of the fish appeared to have rotted when they where dead, white all over. There are no bullies in the tank and my signature is not up to date, just the fish the tank specs should be okay... I can't get around to changing it :/ I out a fairly dirty breading net incase that was doing something, don't know if thats got anything to do with it.

Also I bought a new filter a while back which makes a really strong current, my fish are all pretty small. Maybe thats doing something.

Any help would be great.

sounds like flexibacterium or flavobacterium whichever you choose columaris

basically a bacteria that is known to cause gill disease, fin/tail/mouth rot signs(looks a bit like fungal infection and is often called mouth fungus)

needs treatment for a bacterial problem , i use esha's products esha 2000

also melafix a tea tree derivative is quite useful, if a little like bubble bath , dont be alarmed

if treating bacterial probs whatever you are using tun temp down a little , no less than 24 in your fish's case though
make sure you check if higher dose's are need in your soft water
and generally increase aeration(will foam a lot if using melafix- dont be alarmed)

dont use salt with the pepperd catfish

where abouts in oz are you
must be cut up about the rugby , then again won the tennis straight afer hey!
