Hi everyone just seen one of these Tilapia Buttikoferi for sale, anyone keep of have kept one of these?
what are your experiences with these fish?
Should I buy it or go for an Oscar?
Ta Rob

They are extremely agro and usually end up killing everything else in the tank, including their partners. If you want a big fish on its own then go for it otherwise get an oscar and a few other fish to go with it.
How big is the tank?

It's a vision 260 48" wide,
read about it on the net and now favouring Oscars,
it was such a beauty though totaly unmarked body and fins.

I agree with Colin, beautiful fish but incredibly aggressive. Most of them are fine as juveniles but when mature they terrorise and attack everything in the tank. Oscars can also share this behaviour, although you may be one of the lucky ones.

NVM....

Ive always wanted one of these fish and will get one someday, it is one of my most desired :p

It is an African Cichlid and an extremely aggressive one too. ;)

Yeah I know ive done lots of research on them.....
Just It was moved from the new world section so I saw it in the new world and thought it had been misplaced

Oscars are nowhere near as agressive as the buttikoferi. You can have a pr of oscars in a tank with a few other big fish and they generally don't kill each other, (they do bully each other). Most of the big buttikoferi that I have seen have been one there own because they killed everything else in the tank. We had blackbelts and festaes that were way more peaceful than the buttikoferi.

If im right the Butti will go out of its way to kill, its not even a territorial thing (well it is the whole tank is their territory no matter how big the tank is)

but oscars are more If it fits in my mouth ill eat it

Oscars are pussy cats in comparison to Butterkoferi but they can still cause problems when they mature. Many people have had to rehome tankmates because the Oscar won't tolerate them. Oscars are also frequently rehomed themselves because of this problem.

Ended up getting 3 Oscars about 3" long hope to get a pair.
3 Red Tigers, did like the Buttikoferi though, but have had Oscars before, when I saw them
I had to get them.
