my husband was moving my tsn to another tank
when the cat spiked him we didnt know that they had spikes we do now where are the spines located and they are not posionus are they

i cannot give answers for sure that i know are right but i got told when i first bought my first shovel cat that the spines are very bad for you and would need to go to hospital ......

BUT Saying this i am more informed know about fish as a whole and have never seen any other info regarding that very are very bad for you if they get you.

the spines as far as i am concerned are in the pec fins and are there for defence purposes.

hope you husband is well :p

The spines are in the pectoral fins and although they are not venomous they can inflict nasty wounds which become infected due to a bacteria on the fins. When spiked by any catfish the best course of action is to bleed the wound for a few minutes and then clean with a antiseptic like TCP.
