I have been looking a round for fish to put into my new long 20g tank and I love the look of tiger barbs, always have done, but I know that they are known fin nippers.

I was just wondering if you could answer some of these questions:-

Is my tank was big enought for these fish, as ive read some people saying they are and others saying it isn't?
How many would it be best to keep?
And are male and females equaliy aggresive or is one sex better to keep than others?
And I also like the look of green tiger barbs are these any less aggresive or just the same?
And can you keep any fish with them as long as they don't have long fins?

Thanks people :good:

I think a 20g is a tad small for them. Basing this on the fact that they are nippy and need to be kept in groups of 6-8 or more so they will nip at each other more than the others.

I'm not aware of any diffferences betwen the sexes and the green ones are the same as the orange and black ones.

You can keep them with other fish without long flowing fins that are the same temperament.

Ok thanks. Is there any other type of barb that is still a good looking fish but mabey not as nippy as the tiger barb that you could suggest?

Thanks

Tiger barbs are far too active for a 20G long
if it is the shape and colouration of tiger barbs you like
can I suggest
Black ruby barbs Puntius nigrofasciatus
pentazona barbs Puntius pentazona or
partial banded barb Puntius partipentazona

all 3 have similar markings to TBs but nowhere near the space requirements
or level of 'agressivness' :good:
