I have heard that tiger barbs go welll with red tailed black sharks as they stop the shark from being overly dominant is this true?

Also, is it necessary to have 6 plus tiger barbs in the one tank, or is this just a personal opinion?

Thanks

I think they do better in groups as they do pick on other fish and are well matched targets for themselves.
Mine shoaled at first but now are roaming around. They are very pretty and look like buches of woman nattering or lads on streetcorners lol. They then swim fast and can scare others of.
I hated them at first but they grow on you.
The red tale shark is agressive so watch what else you put in but barbs can move away easily.

Thanks for your help.
I wanted to put in about 5 tiger barbs which will hopefully go well with my shark.
Do you know of any other fish that will go well with my shark or is it trial and error?

A friend of mine had them and managed well in large tank, however not to go with anything smaller than it can eat as she said her neon etc
Hopefully more folks can help out but do not be fulled into a peaceful young shark as they get very differnt as they get older and are agressive. poor other fish.

IMO you ought to hold off getting those tiger barbs. You had mentioned before in another post that your rtbs had been looking dull. This indicates that he is stressed, either get your water perameters right or get a bigger tank for him. Its cruel i think to add more tank mates when the guy is squished in the tank as it is. If you add tiger barbs they will surely be pissed off and so will the shark, then this leads to more porblems and more money being spenjt on fish meds, etc. etc. GET the bigger tank while you still can, save the fish the stress and you some money. Just my two cents.
