i have six tiger barbs in a smaller tank and i miss seeing them in my big tank will they attack my gourami? they were orignally in my big tank but i had to move them as they attacked my big angel when they got older (they were babies when i first got them)

Tiger barbs shouldn't be kept with fish that have long flowing fins.

the normal rule is not to keep tiger barbs in with any fish that has long flowing fins. I do. My 8 (originally 10) green and stripey tiger barbs have never caused any trouble to any of my other fish which include pearl gouramis and angels. My 'big' tank is 5 foot long and 400 litres capacity so they do get plenty of space despte being a bit overstocked.

If yours have already shown signs of aggression towards other fish then I think you are beter advised to not risk it with the gouramis. It may be that adding a few more tigers will stop them from finding mischief with other fish and stick to thier own group as mine do. Dont go down this route though if your LFS wont have them back if it doesnt work!!

Best of luck.

Kissing gouramies don't have long flowing fins. In fact, kissers are one of the few of the commoon gouramies that lack the long ventral feelers - makign them a lot less susceptible to being nipped. The also get considerably bigger at 8" and can handle aggression as they can be considerably more aggressive themselves.

Having said that, I agree with Cavafish in that you CAN bend the rules - a large school of tiger barbs is a lot less nippy. If you add a few more barbs at the same time, you may be able to avoid confrontations altogether. On the other hand, it could be a complete disaster and you'll need to do something about it.

Also, I replied to another thread where you were asking the same question and I mentioned there that your gouramies could become a problem for you in future. I don't know whether you've seen that or replied yet so I thought I'd let you know that gold gouramies (and other three-spots) can be very territorial and males can go as far as to kille ach other. They are ok whilst young but get increasingly more aggressive as adults.
